TRUMP AND PELOSI AND CONTEMPT

Will Trump defy Congress’s subpoena, spit in their eye, figuratively, dare them, give them the finger?

For her own reasons, Nancy Pelosi has decided not to use “inherent contempt” to confront Trump’s fascism. She decided it is too time consuming, too hard, with the first person who defied the Cogressional Committee’s subpoenas. People like Trump, those who have defied subpoenas,Congress would have had to set up a Grand Jury to weigh the evidence for inherent contempt of a Congressional subpoena, then try the matter, contempt of a legit subpoena.

Inherent contempt will end with this Congress for this matter, so they’ll have until 1/3/23, the close of this Congress. Trump defies, Congress can start proceedings to find the ex president for “ inherent contempt” and proceed to a trial. There is precedent, the Supreme Court has ruled Congress has the power. The Justice Dept and the President have a say in the processes, but inherent contempt has the power to have the Congressional Cop, the Sergeant at Arms, enforce the subpoena, maybe lock the miscreant Trump up in the Congressional jail.

This Congress has chosen to use civil and criminal contempt, not inherent contempt, choosing paths that will likely lead nowhere if the new House in 2023 is led by the seditionists in the Republican party. Trump is a thug, has compromised the FBI and the Secret Service, ignored the emoluments clause and successfully screwed the taxpayer, and planned and executed an insurrection, and as yet has suffered no consequence, no consequences.

This election will surprise us all. Who will show up, whose votes get counted while in dispute for how long? People may not really care.
