The Supreme Court versus Science, Galileo’s ghost
I read the First Amendment’s no establishment of religion , and the free exercise thereof not to mean that it’s cool to have large religious gatherings during a pandemic, and endanger the public health of not only the people exercising their religious freedom, but the rest of the society.
It isn’t intelligent or scholarly, or legally wise, to endanger public health if you don’t have to, other people’s lives may be compromised by the behavior.
These are not stupid people, the religious freedom zealots on the court, they do not see that no establishment of religion implies freedom from religion, and the free exercise thereof doesn’t imply compromising public health.
The court shouldn’t be in the public health business, a pandemic requires reasoned compromise, science not ideology. Packing religious gathering during a pandemic is as ridiculous as saying corporations are people and money is speech.
There’s a rumor going around that Galileo’s ghost has left Dante’s hell and is haunting the Supreme Court, look for the ghost with the telescope.
