Nobody mentioned Julian Assange. Nobody. There were no Australian demonstrators outside protesting his detention for more than ten years over one eventually dismissed charge after another.

At one pont in his persecution, the CIA had Assange thrown out of an embassy in Britain, where he is still locked up, awaiting his trial for espionage here, a rogue publisher, busted abroad.

Journalists locked up by authoritarian governments was a compelling theme of the event. Julian Assange did not come up. Julian who? Freedom of the what?
