THE COMMON GOOD

It is not possible to reconcile the common good with authoritarian leaders who see the common good as their self interest. Trump, Xi, Putin, Modi, Netanyahu, et al, are pursuing their individual self interests, which is in each case despotism.

Biden and Macron are party hacks in democratic systems, they are still functionaries of systems, rather than people who want to impose their will on systems of government. Trump nation is a cult in which the common good is whatever the leader says it is.

Biden represents the same interests as Hillary Clinton, the Democratic National Committee. Trump represents Trump. He sees the presidency as a get out of jail free card. He is a man who will rule in the name of Christian Nationalism, a man who probably has no religion but self interest.

A nation that has lost it’s sense of the common good has lost its sense of self. Democracy is a common good.
