A strategic relationship with a feudal Islamic monarchy led by people who treat women like third class citizens, where they will chop your head off for quitting Sunni Islam and becoming an “unbeliever”.

Thank Laurence of Arabia and the British Empire for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Turkey was the big dog until the debacle of its involvement in WW1.

The Sunni/ Shiite religious war that Yemen is about, has been going on since Mohammed died in the 7th Century. The US and Britain were happy with the Saudi autocracy of oil potentates during the Eisenhower years. In 1954, the CIA and the Brits installed the Shah, overthrowing the democratically elected government in Iran. Eisenhower, he and the Dulles brothers, one at State, the other at CIA, created the Post WW2 environment, containment policy of Mao in China, the Cold War with the USSR.

Today the Sunni/Shiite holy war between Shiite Iran and its allies, and Sunni Saudi Arabia and its Sunni allies, is a non subject here. The Shiites are the majority religious sect in Iraq. The US has been allied with the Sunnis since the fall of the Shah and the theocracy imposed by the Islamic revolution.

The Saudis have a relationship with the colony that is Israel, and Israel wags the dog here. Yemen is the site of the Sunni /Shiite religious war that you have no need to know about, that has been ongoing since Mohammed died in the 7th Century. The US has troops on the ground in Saudi, supplies its air defenses, has armed the Kingdom.
