Pandemics and politics, 4/24/20

The political class is exactly that, pursuing their self interest, which is first and foremost getting re elected, and that false compromise, the public’s interests and their party affiliations, have crept into a nation’s response to a pandemic.

Few in the political class seem to be able to see that politics and pandemics don’t work. Unless epidemiologists call the shots, the pandemic will do to these politicians what it did to Athens and Pericles.

Putting politics first in the face of catastrophe will produce a tragedy of epic proportions. Andrew Cuomo has addressed the fact that this is no time for politics and he’s right, this is no time for politics, blaming the Chinese or WHO will change nothing. It is a time to listen to the experts, not opportunists.
