THE REPUBLIC’S BLUES

Nobody is listening. They are busy with important matters like 130,000,000 other Americans living in a heat dome they have to ignore. There’s the proxy war in Ukraine, that financial drain, and the Trump Nation notion at play across the body politic, a certain madness, of the lie of a stolen election, Trump, was the incumbent, they rarely lose, and he did.

14th Amendment, Disqualification for Rebellion:

Section Three of the 14th Amendment disqualifies an individual from serving as a State or Federal official if that person has “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against” the United States.

Section Five vests the Congress with the authority to adopt appropriate legislation to enforce amendment.

The Executive is the designated enforcer of Acts of Congress.

Congress can not act, pass nothing, not enforce the 14th Amendment. The Amendment was a consequence of the Civil War. It was as effective as the rest of Reconstruction. Lincoln got killed in 1865, Johnson took over, times changed, the Amendment the consequence in 1868, then Reconstruction ends with the Hayes election, after Grant’s second term, contested by Tilden, old news.

Americans have a pledge allegiance to a flag, and to a Republic for which it stands, which is recited ubiquitously, throughout the nation, this pledge of allegiance may be lip service at this point in the history of the Republic. Trump’s slogan, “the election was stolen”, has worked on the psyches of too many Americans, a very slick trick.

Oh well, Harley, no heat dome where you are today, less smoke from Canada’s forests on fire. Republican debate tonight, will feature Joe Biden’s crimes, and inflation, the cure for which is price controls on essential goods and services, like Nixon did.
