Afghanistan was their baby, the hunt for the Arabs with box cutters narrative, invade a country to hunt down a man who wound up hiding out in Pakistan for years, stashed by Pakistani intelligence.

A failed colonial adventure twenty years in length. Viet Nam was the same scenario, a failed colonial adventure.

Blaming Biden for the folly rather than recognize the folly of colonial adventures, is what imperial adventurers do, and it doesn’t seem that the political class here has learned much from the failed adventure, trying to impose modernity on Islamic reactionary zealots was bound to fail.

The question remains, why did Cheney and Bush invade Afghanistan? It wasn’t necessary, didn’t immediately accomplish the stated goal, so the question remains, why did they really invade Afghanistan, then switch to Iraq, based on convenient lies?
