A Profound Distraction

Fascism has to create the demon other, the threat to culture, heritage. national identity, and focus on how to end this threat to the “nation”. The present regime is enabling a culture war to get re elected.

America has enough problems without dealing with a fascist culture war. The countries that have done well during the pandemic have focussed on the virus, not politics.

Here the national divide has been cooped by outright opportunism and a lack of concern for the underclass by the present regime. Societies with universal health care have been more successful in dealing with the pandemic. Counties like the USA, Brazil, India, with vast underclasses without health care don’t do as well.

How to change the subject from the failing response to the pandemic? A distraction of the most dangerous kind, profound civil unrest, suppressed and repressed, the road to fascism is always a short one.
