Cuba and Venezuela are being embargoed because? They can be. The Monroe doctrine seems to apply to countries in the hemesphere that defy American hegemony, the regime change policy.

This is a double standard that the American people are oblivious to, as usual. There are 190,000 American soldiers in who knows how many countries abroad, they just celebrated Thanksgiving. This is a substitute for universal early childhood education, universal health care, and affordable higher education, the Monroe Doctrine and the invisible empire.
